OSRS Zalcano Guide | PlayerAuctions (2024)

Zolcano is a non-combat boss located in Prifddinas. You will need to complete the Song of the Elves quest to gain access to him. The reason why you might want to kill him has to do with his drops rather than with the XP gains because unlike the other non-combat bosses (Tempoross and Wintertodt), Zalcano won’t give you much XP. The average Zalcano kill is worth over 200k GP, according to the wiki.

OSRS Zalcano Requirements

Zalcano can either be approached with a group of players or solo as long as you have a minimum level 70 Smithing and a minimum level of 70 Mining.

OSRS Zalcano Drops

Zalcano will drop some crystal shards and infernal ashes each kill, and this makes him a great activity to gain crystal shards since you will get a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 for each kill. Besides these, he can drop runes, ores, bars, and high-level gems such as diamonds, dragonstone, and the onyx. You can also get a valuable tool seed from him, worth around 20 million.

OSRS Zalcano Shard

The Zalcano shard is a unique drop you can get from killing this boss. It is used to decorate the dragon pickaxe. It is hunted more for the collection log since it can be traded for under 100k on the Grand Exchange.

Zalcano Pet OSRS

If you’re interested in unique drops, Zalcano also features a pet at a rate of 1 in 2250. The pet is called Smolcano, a mini version of the boss; similarly to all other pets, it cannot be traded.

OSRS Zalcano XP Rates

Zolcano is terrible if you aim to gain XP. You can expect around 13k mining XP, which is surprisingly almost half of what you can get while AFK training your mining with shooting stars, 3000 Smithing XP, which is pretty much a few minutes at the Blast Furnace with the gold Smithing gauntlets, and 1500 Runecrafting XP, which you can gain from a trip or two to any altar.

The loot compensates especially for Ironman, who gets another way to bank Smithing and Crafting XP and GP from high alchs.

OSRS Zalcano Strategy

If you want to find a group for Zolcano, you can head to world 378 or 375. The best group size for obtaining loot is between 4 to 6 players. However, you can solo, duo, or trio the boss as well.

OSRS Zolcano Gear

Zolcano gear should maximize prayer bonus as well as run energy and your mining.

OSRS Zalcano Fight To engage with Zalcano and effectively remove her Armor, you would need to procure imbued tephra and use it against her. Begin by locating a glowing rock formation, which can be found in one of the four corners of the enclosure. This formation is crucial as it yields tephra, the essential component for your task. It is advisable to prioritize the glowing formations over the non-glowing ones, as they provide tephra at a significantly more efficient rate.

Mining Tephra

As Zalcano makes her entrance, pay particular attention to the northeastern rock formation, which typically has the highest likelihood of being the glowing one. However, if it's outside the northeast, be prepared to check the other corners. It's important to note that previously, the glowing formation did not appear in the southwest at the start of the confrontation, though this has changed.

Zalcano may target the glowing rock with a magical strike that can cause the rock to detonate. Should you find yourself close, this explosion could deal approximately 30 points of damage. If this happens, another rock will immediately begin to glow. Make your way to this new formation if you need more tephra.

Imbuing Tephra

Once you have gathered tephra, proceed to the furnace on the eastern side of the area to refine it into refined tephra. Following this, you should head over to the altar on the western side to imbue your refined tephra, thus preparing it for use. With your imbued tephra ready, you are now set to confront Zalcano.

Zalcano Symbols

You need to know that imbued tephra does not require you to equip it to use it. When Zalcano reveals orange and blue demonic symbols during the battle, it is to your advantage to position yourself within the blue symbols. Doing so will significantly enhance the damage and accuracy of your tephra throws.

To optimize your efforts, it is wise to conserve your tephra until Zalcano summons the blue symbols. This strategy ensures that your tephra is employed to its fullest potential, bypassing the need to create more, which can be quite a time-intensive task.

When you must decide whether to use your remaining tephra immediately or conserve them for later, consider this simple calculation: multiply the quantity of tephra you have by 15 and then by the number of players engaged in the battle. If the product of this calculation approaches the remaining hitpoints of Zalcano's armour, it may be more prudent to hold onto your tephra.

Zalcano Golem

Be alert to Zalcano's attacks since if she directs her magical assault at a wall rather than a glowing rock formation, a golem with 14 hitpoints will emerge. This golem can restore 50 armor points to Zalcano—or a proportionate amount if it has already sustained damage. In scenarios where you are part of a larger group, with 8 or more players, it is generally safe to disregard the golem. However, in smaller assemblies, it is beneficial to eliminate the golem using your imbued tephra. Upon its defeat, the golem will confer a bounty of 16 to 24 imbued tephra to one of the participants who inflicted damage. If you are the one to claim this tephra, feel free to launch any surplus tephra at Zalcano, as the additional tephra you have acquired will eventually lead to the dismantling of her armour.

Vulnerable Zalcano

Once her armour has been effectively removed, Zalcano will collapse to the ground, leaving her vulnerable to attack. It is during this critical moment that you must attack her.

To ensure efficiency during your encounter with Zalcano, it is advisable to remain near her as her armour’s hitpoints dwindle. This positioning allows you to commence mining upon her armour’s depletion promptly. However, be mindful not to traverse directly beneath her, as this misstep can result in sustained damage at an approximate rate of 7 hitpoints per tick.

Zalcano Return

As the battle progresses, after a random interval between 12 and 16 seconds—or once a cumulative 380 damage has been inflicted by the players—Zalcano will rise, rejuvenated and ready to continue the battle. Her armor will regenerate to a full 300 hitpoints. Be particularly cautious during this phase, as a shock wave will emanate from her, obliterating any remaining tephra on the battlefield. To avoid the frustration of seeing your newly mined tephra destroyed, it is critical to refrain from mining until after the shock wave has passed.

Furthermore, should you find yourself adjacent to Zalcano at this moment, you will be thrust several tiles back and briefly stunned for 1 to 2 ticks, all the while incurring approximately 10 hitpoints of damage. It is essential to recover quickly from this setback and return to the initial tactics you employed at the outset of the battle. Continue this cycle—mining, refining, and throwing imbued tephra—with diligence and resilience until Zalcano's hitpoints are again reduced to zero.

OSRS Zalcano Attacks List

As you prepare to face Zalcano, the stone demon, you must be vigilant of her six distinct attacks, each occurring at unpredictable intervals throughout your confrontation.

Stomp

Zalcano's first attack is a powerful stomp that dislodges boulders from the ceiling. To avoid harm, you need only to step aside by at least one tile as soon as you spot the premonitory shadows or debris on the ground, heralding the imminent fall of a boulder. Failure to evade may result in taking substantial damage, potentially over 40 points.

Demonic Symbols

The second of Zalcano's arsenal involves conjuring blue and orange demonic symbols scattered across the chamber. Interacting with the blue symbols bears no peril; on the contrary, it enhances the damage and accuracy of your attacks with imbued tephra. The orange symbols,

however, inflict incrementally increasing damage, up to 26 points, the longer they persist, and deplete your run energy. These symbols materialize in various patterns, with 2 to 5 symbols being blue and the rest orange, and it is a matter of chance which symbols will be blue.

Red Energy Ball

Zalcano's third tactic is projecting a red energy sphere against a prison wall, summoning a golem. If the golem reaches Zalcano unimpeded, it will replenish her armour’s hitpoints by an amount equal to its remaining health, up to 50 hitpoints if the golem is at full health. Fortuitously, you can damage this golem with imbued tephra, and upon its defeat, it relinquishes 16 to 24 imbued tephra.

Orange Energy Ball

The fourth attack sees Zalcano launching an orange energy ball towards the currently activated red rock formation, disabling it. If you find yourself in proximity to the targeted rock, you may sustain up to 28 damage. To avoid such an occurrence, observe and distance yourself from the glowing rock. Rest assured, another rock will glow immediately, allowing you to continue your efforts.

Shock Wave

Fifthly, after Zalcano has been brought down and a certain duration has elapsed, or sufficient damage has been dealt, she will rise again. Should you be adjacent to her now, a shock wave will be unleashed, forcibly repelling you a few tiles away and inflicting approximately 10 points of damage. Moreover, any tephra left on the ground will be destroyed by this wave.

Small Pebbles

Lastly, Zalcano can target all players within the prison with a flurry of small pebbles. While this barrage is inescapable, the damage is minimal, generally around 5 points.

Is it Possible to Solo Zalcano OSRS?

Soloing Zalcano is not recommended, even though it is doable. You would need to gather a minimum of 30 tephra yourself and follow the same strategy as with a group. It will also be wise to bring more stamina and more brews since the fight will take longer, and you will need to sustain both your HP and run energy for a more extended period.
