Donovan Rhys is a character in Starfield.

There isn't a time limit on your run, so you can take as much time as you want to. On the way, you'll face several obstacles but the biggest ones are the Red Mile Maulers.

However, if this is your first time doing the Red Mile Run, make sure to loot the corpse to the right of the podium. Among several good bits of gear, you'll find the Grunt Issue 01 magazine, which permanently increases ballistic weapon damage.

Completing the Red Mile once rewards you with both Credits and gear. Research so far seems to suggest the gear comes from a loot pool and is not specific; my first run yielded a Rare Shotgun and about 5000 credits. Subsequent completions seem to only reward Credits. In an interview with The New York Times published alongside the release of Starfield, Ashley Cheng, Bethesda's managing director, said the developers made sure there was enough to do in the game without jam-packing all 1,000 planets with content. Not every location, he said, “is supposed to be Disney World.”

Those who are seeking glory will likely be satisfied with seeing their name on the top of the Red Mile's leaderboards — which is only against other Starfield NPCs — but other than that, the main reward is a gun called Desperation.

You can participate in repeated Red Mile Runs to earn the rewards above. If you complete 28 runs, you will be rewarded with the following items: Desperation - a unique AA-99 11mm rare rifle. Mounted Red Mile Apex decoration.

So I learned today that there's a special reward if you beat Donovan's record for how many times you run the Red Mile and return alive. You unlock a decoration you can build at an outpost or penthouse/home as well as get a gun.
